Revival and Resilience

The handloom industry in Chendamangalam faced challenges in the early 20th century due to diminishing patronage. However, the establishment of the Chendamangalam Handloom Cooperative Society in 1955 revitalized the craft. Despite setbacks like the 2018 Kerala floods, the community's resilience, supported by initiatives such as the creation of ‘Chekutty’ dolls from damaged fabrics, has kept the tradition alive.
